If I was going to buy a gift for someone in the next few months, it would definitely be a Wii Fit. Child, teenager, adult - it doesn't matter. Wii Fit is perfect for all ages. But what is it and why are so many people clamoring to get it? If you're not yet familiar with what the Wii Fit is, you're in for a treat.
Video Game Meets Local Gym
The Wii Fit is a game for the Nintendo Wii. It consists of the game software that goes into the Wii unit (purchased separately) and a balance board (which kind of looks like a short step class stepper). The balance board can do everything from analyzing your BMI to training you for cardio boxing.
There are multiple games within the game, all focused into four different groups consisting of strength, balance, aerobics and yoga. You can improve your balance and reflexes by heading off incoming soccer balls, burn calories with cardio boxing and step classes or increase your posture and overall health with yoga.
If you've ever wanted to buy one of those couch potato video gamers something that would get them off their duffs, this is it.
The Bad News
The Wii Fit is awesome, and everyone seems to know it. That's why it's almost impossible to get. Think "hot toy of the year at Christmas" type of challenge. If, however, you don't mind waiting in lines during the wee hours of the morning or you can find a store that will let you reserve one from their next shipment, you may be able to get your hands on one. The Web is also a good place to check.
The Price
Wii Fit is about $80 or $90 retail. You can get one faster from a resaler for between $150 and $200. If you need it for a gift right now and you don't mind paying more, this could be a good option.
