Why Is the Amazon Kindle Lighting Such a Fire?
The Amazon Kindle May Be The Hottest Gift Yet
Okay, I can see where a few tech-geek book nerds would fork over $400 for an Amazon Kindle, but who on Earth could have expected the mad success of this digital book reader? Not I! But low and behold! All avid readers want it and if you can fork out $400 for a gift, this is the gift to give anyone who loves a good book.
What is The Kindle?
The Amazon Kindle is a revolutionary e-reader. Actually, it's not just an e-reader. It's a wireless reading device. It allows you to buy electronic books immediately via a wireless connection and the book is downloaded to your Kindle in less than a minute. New York Times best sellers and new releases are usually $10 or less and you can get top national newsletters too.
Unlike most e-readers, the Kindle has an awesome display. It's very easy to read. And even though the books are downloaded wirelessly, you don't have to pay for any airtime or subscription service. Just connect to Amazon and buy the books you want. It's awesome!
What You Need to Know
First, while there is some free reading material available to Kindle owners, the price of the device doesn't include book downloads. If you buy someone the Kindle, they're going to have to pay for the books they want (unless you want to include that in the gift). That being said, the books are pretty reasonable. About $10 for new releases (which cost way more in hardcover at the bookstore).
If You Can't Afford a Kindle
If you know someone who wants the Amazon Kindle but you just can't afford the $400 price tag, do the next best thing. Give them an Amazon.com gift certificate for whatever you can afford and let them save that towards the steep purchase price.
