What Do You Know about Proper Gift Giving Etiquette?
Proper Gift Giving Etiquette Tips
When it comes to gift giving, it seems that many people aren’t aware of proper gift giving etiquette. Below you’ll find three helpful tips designed to assist you with navigating what can sometimes be a very confusing topic. Proper gift giving etiquette can ensure that gift giving is enjoyable for everyone involved.
#1 - Include a Gift Receipt Whenever Possible
When you make a purchase and are offered the option of getting a gift receipt, make sure you get the receipt. Include it when you wrap the gift. Ideally, you will purchase a gift that your recipient can use and enjoy. However, this isn’t always possible particularly if someone else purchases the same gift.
Having a gift receipt can allow your gift recipient to exchange the gift with minimal aggravation and loss of time. Try not to include your original receipt since it will display the price you paid. Even though your gift recipient might know exactly how much the item cost you, it is never appropriate and violates proper gift giving etiquette to disclose that information when presenting your gift.
#2 - Don't Forget to Remove the Price Tag
There is nothing tackier than giving a gift with the price tag attached. Read any of the well-known authors on etiquette and you’ll find the same advice-remove the price tags! If you get the gift wrapped at the store where you bought it, the sales associate will usually do this for you.
#3 Wrap Your Gift in a Pet-Free Environment
If you have furry critters in your home, make sure you keep them out of the way when you are wrapping gift. There is nothing quite worse than receiving a gift that has cat hair caught underneath the tape. Your gift recipient might love furry friends just as much as you do, but that doesn’t excuse a gift presentation that is less than presentable. Proper gift giving etiquette requires wrapped gifts be neat, clean, and presentable.
