Why Is The Nintendo Wii Still So Hot?
Right before Christmas of 2006, stores everywhere were sold out of the Nintendo Wii. Finding one meant spending hundreds more than retail on websites like eBay or Craig's List or waiting in line for hours in hopes of finding one right when the store opened. Now, more than half a year later, the Nintendo Wii is still in short supply and high demand. What is making this gift so hard to get?
Everyone Wants One
The first thing that's making the Nintendo Wii so hard to get is that everybody wants one. They are unlike any other video game system on the market, combining video gaming skills with physical activity. Parents and kids are both pleased.
Unfortunately, while everyone seems to want a Nintendo Wii, they still seem quite hard to find. Why? Because supply is far outweighed by demand. Some stores only get in 3 to 4 Wii platforms a week and they sell out in minutes.
What's the Outlook?
Honestly, check online or call stores and see when they expect a shipment in and wait in line for about an hour to see if you're lucky enough to get one. I was recently at my local Target and the sales associate told me they probably wouldn't slow down in sales until after NEXT Christmas, so unless you want to wait till 2008 for your Wii, I suggest checking online daily or shelling out extra bucks on the resale market.
Look on the bright side! Christmas is less than 6 months away. That gives you 6 months to find what looks like may be the hottest Christmas gift of 2007. Wouldn't that be ironic? The same must-have, impossible-to-find Christmas gift two years in a row? I don't think that's ever happened before.
I must say, however, that the hullabaloo is worth it. I did manage to get my kids a Wii this past Christmas and it's the ONLY present they're still playing with.
