Original Homemade Gifts for All Occasions
If you like to give homemade gifts, you'll love these suggestions
There's something special about homemade gifts -- and I don't just mean children's drawings on a piece of paper! No matter what the occasion, you can make it stand out in the recipient's mind by giving something you fashioned by yourself instead of something you picked up in a store.
Try these ideas and watch their faces light up!
1. For the crafty friend
Got a crafty friend who's always wanted to learn how to knit? Knitting is a craft quickly reviving!
Simply get your hands on a (clean) Chinese take out container, a pair of knitting needles, and a ball of pretty yarn. Arrange these in a nice way (stick the needles up like chopsticks) and include a set of knitting instructions printed off the internet. You have the perfect crafty gift.
2. For the photographer
Got a friend who absolutely adores taking pictures? You know the one -- they're lurking around every corner ready to flash a camera in your face. Well, why not give a homemade gifts to fit her hobby? Pick up some wooden picture frames at your local craft store, along with some acrylic paint.
Have fun decorating the frames. You can add scraps of paper (use modge podge to cover them up, though) or even old photographs you've cut into pieces. You'll wind up with unique, creative frames to hold tons of memories.
3. For the bookworm
Every bookworm needs a hollow book to store their secret items. Hit up garage sales and used book stores until you find a cheap, dull, and fairly thick hard covered book, ideally one with a nice cover. All you need is glue, a paintbrush, and an exacto knife, and you're ready to get going with your homemade gifts.
Mix the glue with a small amount of water and "paint" around the pages of the book to hold them shut. Leave the first page unpainted and separate. Once the glue dries, use the exacto knife to cut a hollow rectangle in the book, then "paint" the inside edges with glue. Once it dries, glue the first page down and cut out the whole. Voila -- the perfect bookworm hiding place.
Remember, homemade gifts show thoughtful intent, so don't be afraid to try something new!
