Help 'Em Hone Their Singing Skills with Online Voice Lessons

Do you know someone who aspires to be a singer? Well, even if they can't carry a tune in a bucket, online voice lessons can help them be all they can be.

The thing about online voice lessons is that they're cheap, and they have a multitude of uses. For example, are you sick of your neighbor's tuneless caterwauling? Give them some free voice lessons. Maybe they'll get the point -- or at least become a better singer. There's always hope.

But seriously, folks, voice lessons are a great idea for anyone who loves to sing and would like to get serious about it. Even if they're already a good singer, a professional voice coach can help them bring out their best qualities, so they can take a big step toward success.

How it all works

Thanks to the miracles of modern technology, it's no longer necessary to hunt up a voice coach you can learn from in person. That may be easy in New York and LA, of course, but in middle America you'd have to look hard and make do with whatever you can find. Not anymore!

While it may lack that personal touch, the standard online courses do have structure, much like any face-to-face course. Each includes a mix of instructional audio, video, and text files that you can either download or purchase online, organized into brief concise lessons.

Don't expect the voice coach to actually speak to the student personally, as that generally costs extra. On the other hand, lessons tend to be quite inexpensive--on the order of $20-30 a month for weekly lessons is fairly common. That's less than you'd pay for a single lesson at a music school or for face-time with a coach.

What's taught?

Online coaches generally teach the basics that anyone can pick up. Breathing techniques are important, as are ways to scale your natural range up and down to match the songs you'd like to sing. You'll also learn how to control your pitch and delivery.

In the past, most voice coaches taught only classical singing (and some still do). But today's voice coaches are more in tune with what people really want to learn: how to sing rock and roll, blues, gospel, country, and other popular styles. The best of them are flexible enough to handle just about any musical genre.

Where can I find 'em?

If you'd like to give someone the gift of voice lessons, just type the term into a search engine and let 'er rip. You'll find plenty of options to choose from, in just about every style and format you can imagine.

And remember: it doesn't matter how good or bad your giftee is. Caterwauler or crooner, online voice lessons can always help.
