Heelys: The Hottest New Gift for Kids

Everyone Wants Them

My sons are not usually the type to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to fashion fads. However, the moment they saw the shoes called Heelys, they begged me nonstop to buy them a pair. At least five times a day I was asked if they could have Heelys. Then, when all of the neighborhood kids started wearing Heelys, I was asked about buying them at least ten times a day. It was starting to get to me.

Discovering Heelys

To be honest, when my sons were begging me for Heelys, I had no idea what they were. After a while their nagging got to me and I started looking into it. After reading reviews on the web about Heelys, watching flash videos of kids using the shoes and looking at the styles, I started to understand what all of the hype was about.

It turns out that Heelys are shoes that you can roll on. The shoes come with a wheel that goes into the heel of the shoe and when the wheel is in the shoe, you can either walk normally or roll along like you would on skates. If you’re going to a place where the wheel wouldn’t be appropriate, you can take the wheel out and insert the heel plug and the Heelys transform to a normal pair of street shoes.

Heading to the Mall

So I decided to give in and get both boys a pair of Heelys. I headed out to the mall and every store I checked either didn’t carry them or were completely sold out. It got to the point that I was asking the kids who were wearing Heelys in the mall where they got theirs. You could tell who they were because they were rolling around the mall thoroughly enjoying their Heelys. ‘

Success at Last

Finally I found a pair for my youngest son at a small specialty store near our home, but they were out of the size my older son wears. I finally found a pair for my older son at a store about twenty miles from where we live.

I have to tell you, if you want to give a gift your kids are going to love and get a ton of use from, get them Heelys. My kids have been wearing them every single day since we got them and they are still as excited about them as the day they got them.

Just be prepared to spend some dough. Heelys are a bit expensive, costing between $60 and $90 a pair depending on the style you get. However, they’re very well made and I think they’re worth every penny.
