Each year my kids look at the end of summer with a mixture of remorse and anticipation. They don’t want the fun of summer to end, but they’re excited to get back to school and see their friends again. To make this time of year easier for them, I always surprise them with some end of summer surprises.
Gift Cards For Clothes Shopping
Each year, each of my children get a $50 gift card to Kohls. No, I don’t expect them to get their entire school wardrobe for $50, but when it comes to their school wardrobe, I pick the majority of it out. What they do with the $50 gift card is pick out things they want to buy that I won’t personally add to their fall wardrobe. This serves a dual purpose. The kids get to pick out a few items all by themselves and I don’t have to argue with them about the other things.
Special Pens & Pencils
When I go school supply shopping, I get the standard items on the school supply list, but I also get a few special pens and pencils that the kids will enjoy. This year I bought these really long, sparkly, flexible pencils that feel as though they’re made out of rubber. Every year it’s something different. The kids love looking in their pencil boxes on their first day of school and seeing what I’ve gotten them.
