The Easter basket is one of the best traditions of the Easter holiday -- at least that's what your kids would tell you. Handing out a sub-par basket on Easter is like putting coal in the stocking at Christmas. If you want to make sure your Easter basket measures up, here are five things you just can't leave out.
1. Jelly Beans
I don't care who you are - no Easter basket is complete without a few handfuls of jelly beans. They don't even have to be gourmet jelly beans (although, to be honest, Jelly Belly is my favorite). You can simply stop by the season aisle of your grocery store and buy whatever is on sale.
2. Cadbury Creme Eggs
They only come around once a year so you won't get a second chance if you forget to add these delicious treats to the Easter basket. Every Easter I buy a few dozen of them and divide them among the Easter baskets I give out. They're always a huge hit.
3. A Bunny
I don't care if it's chocolate or stuffed - but in my opinion, a bunny should be in every single Easter basket out there. I personally put a stuffed bunny in baskets for small children and chocolate bunnies in baskets for the older kids. They seem to appreciate it more that way.
4. Plastic Easter Eggs
Even if your family will be going on an Easter egg hunt, you still need to put a few of these plastic gems in the Easter basket itself. Fill it with candy or money - the choice is yours. Sometimes you can buy the eggs pre-filled so all you need to do is toss them into the basket when the time comes.
5. Peeps
You know those sugar-coated marshmallow confections that can put even the healthiest of us into diabetic shock if eaten in abundance? You need to throw those in the Easter basket too. No Easter is complete without the bunny and chick Peeps that we've grown to love over the years.
And there you have it - five things no self-respecting Easter basket would be without. This year, before you tie the cellophane up and put the basket into hiding, make sure it contains these five must-have components.
