Do You Dread Giving Gifts?
Finding Great Gifts Can be as Easy as 1-2-3
If you dread giving gifts because you are always unsure about which gift you should purchase, read on. Gift-giving does not have to be thought of as an unpleasant chore. If you want to give gifts your intended recipients will love, you’ve come to the right place.
Year-Round Shopping
The key to giving good gifts has to do with finding something the gift recipient will love. In order to fine the perfect gift, you have to consider the recipients hobbies, likes, and dislikes. Also, any time you are shopping, even if Christmas or a birthday is months away, you need to be on the lookout for great gifts. If you find something that seems to be a perfect gift, brainstorm about who on your gift list would enjoy such a gift. Always keep a list handy of all the friends, relatives, or coworkers you plan to buy for throughout the year. This way, if you find an item that looks like it will make a perfect gift, you can easily reference your list to see who might love the item and buy it on the spot.
The Thought Counts, So Make Sure You Put Some Into Your Gift Decision
When selecting gifts, keep in mind what your gift recipient enjoys doing. If you have a friend who loves reading, don’t buy her a gift certificate to the movies! Buy her a gift certificate to a local bookstore. She can enjoy coffee and a great book on you. Save the movie gift certificate for your cousin who is a movie buff. Movie buffs might also enjoy a large popcorn container filled with popcorn, candy, and a gift certificate to the local movie rental store.
Great gifts can also focus on just one hobby the recipient has. If your friend loves scrapbooking, you can assemble a great gift ensemble such as a see-through, pastel-colored container filled with scrapbooking supplies and a few rolls of film or a disposable camera. For guys who love baseball, buy tickets to a game. Make all the arrangements and let him know what time you will pick him up to head to the stadium.
The possibilities for great gift ideas are endless. Just keep the likes and dislikes of your intended recipient in mind and you can’t go wrong.

Gift cards are a good fallback for gift-buying. I guess they're the new replacement for gift certificates. For one thing, gift cards can often be used for online purchases.
eBay has a whole market for buying/selling gift cards of all different kinds. (If you click my name, www.Auction-Misspellings.com, and then refresh the page, you can see a selection of gift cards and certificates on eBay.) Also, try searching for "gc" on eBay, such as "Home Depot gc".
There are also several free websites that help people exchange wanted/unwanted gift cards by mail.
