Cut
The cut of a diamond refers to its proportions and its shape. The cut will affect the brilliance and fire of a diamond and can also affect how big the diamond looks.
Color
The diamond color scale is what is used to evaluate the color of the diamond, with colorless diamonds being the most desirable. When evaluating a diamond for color, it is best to do so in natural lighting, as artificial lighting can make a diamond look better than it actually is.
Clarity
The clarity of a diamond measures its visible flaws, including external blemishes and internal inclusions. There are six main categories for classifying a diamonds clarity including F or FL (flawless), IF (nearly flawless), VVS-1 and VVS-2 (very, very slightly included), VS-1 and VS-2 (very slightly included), SI-1 and SI-2 (slightly included) and I-1, I-2 and I-3 (imperfect).
Carat Weight
The carat weight of a diamond determines the diamond’s size. Each carat weighs in at .20 grams. The bigger a diamond is, the more expensive it will be, although a bigger diamond that is imperfect will cost less than a smaller flawless diamond.
