Wine of the month club subscriptions can be a welcome gift
Have you ever wondered about those "thing" of the month clubs? You know what I'm talking about--wine of the month, fruit of the month, chocolate of the month, etc. I've always secretly wished somebody would give me the wine, cheese, or even the fruit of the month club gift. But, alas, the closest I've come is a fruit basket at the holidays and a case of wine as a wedding present.
I happen to be a wine drinker, so wine and wine accoutrements are always a welcome present here. One of my favorite gifts after our second child was born was a complete wine box from my in-laws. Not another adorable baby outfit, but something just for me--a bottle of wine, an opener, a stopper, a foil cutter, and a bottle collar to prevent spills. Of course I couldn't drink it right away, but it was worth saving.
Think about all of the special occasions where a bottle of wine would be a great gift. Wouldn't a wine of the month club subscription be an even greater gift? Just be sure that the intended recipient actually likes wine, or your great gift becomes a monthly dud.
If you do have a wine lover in your circle of friends, family, and colleagues, there are many wine of the month clubs to choose from. I recommend starting with the original Wine of the Month Club. They've been offering mail-order wine since 1972. The Club ships two bottles of wine--one red and one white--along with a newsletter containing serving and storing suggestions, wine history, and recipes.
The Club has flexibility so you can find a wine of the month club gift that fits your budget. There are three levels of membership: Classic Series, Vintner Series, and Limited Series. Choose a series, and then choose the frequency of the bottle shipments (i.e. once a month for a year, every other month for six months, etc.)
The Club guarantees every bottle of wine that they ship, and you can discontinue the membership at any time without penalties or fees. Unfortunately, federal law does not allow the shipping of wine to every state, so check to make sure your recipient's state is included before purchasing the wine of the month club gift.
