An iPad for a Gift
What's an iPad, and who would want one?
If you know someone who loves technology, they've probably heard of the iPad. Maybe you've heard of it too -- either because you eagerly anticipated its arrival or just to wonder what is that thing and what's all the fuss? Whichever camp you fall into, here's what you should know about the iPad if you're considering giving it as a gift.
Reviewing the iPad tablet
Here's how the iPad measures up as a gift.
1. Price: The iPad price usually clocks in at about $500, so it's definitely not a cheap gift, but it's not totally out of range for many people -- especially if this is a major purchase, such as for going away to college. Do not make the mistake of thinking that this replaces a computer, though -- you still need a computer to set it up.
2. Uses: The iPad has TONS of uses. You can surf the web, catch up on email, watch movies, read books, magazines, or newspapers, listen to music on it, download and read PDF documents, create documents, give presentations... there's virtually no end to what this versatile device can accomplish.
3. Functionality: The iPad tablet isn't meant to replace a computer but to stand in as a sort of laptop substitute with a large entertainment factor. That said, typing long documents can be a challenge without an additional keyboard.
Who Would Want It?
The best candidates for iPad gifts are college students, young adults and anyone who loves exceptional technology. They tend to be the ones already familiar with the iPhone, iPods, and the various functions Apple has transformed into daily bywords in our society. Experts predict that all computers will soon go the way of the touch screen, so the iPod tablet isn't so much a novelty as the way of the future.
