A Grandparent’s Birthday and You’re Out of State?

If your child’s grandparents live in a different state and you can’t be with them on their birthday, there are still ways that you can celebrate. Have your child make special artwork and send it to the grandparents so it will arrive in time for grandma or grandpa’s birthday.

Having your child make painted handprints is a great idea. Have them dip their hands in paint and then press onto an 8”x10” sheet of paper. Make sure you include your child’s name and the date, and then frame the masterpiece.

Personal Videos

One popular suggestion is to make a home video for your child’s grandparents on their birthdays. You can film your child saying a special message for his or her grandparents. Home videos are great because your child’s grandparents can actually see you child in action.

A Family Project

Make sure you involve your child in the process when you are selecting a gift for their grandparent’s birthday. If your child is old enough, allow him or her to sign the birthday card rather than you doing it.

Take your child’s lead. If they come up with a suggestion for celebrating grandpa’s birthday, then definitely do that. It’s important that your children are excited about celebrating their grandparents’ birthdays as well. If their responsible for part of the decision-making, they will feel included.

Just Say Hi

A phone call from grandchildren on a grandparent’s birthday is a great way to celebrate the day. Plan to have your children call their grandparents on their grandparents’ birthdays.

As you can see, living in another state, doesn’t mean your children still won’t get to celebrate their grandparents’ birthdays. Try some of the above suggestions on grandma or grandpa’s birthday.
